UWG Professor Deployed to Afghanistan

UWG Assistant Professor of Management Erich B. Bergiel has been deployed to Afghanistan.

This is Dr. Bergiel’s first deployment and he will be overseas for one year, said his father, Dr. Blaise Bergiel, the interim associate dean in Richards College of Business.

He said his son is a major in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and reported for duty in May.

“He felt it was his duty and his obligation,” his father said. “I respect him for that,”

Still, it is unnerving for a parent.

“The sooner he gets over there, the sooner he gets back.”

Dr. Bergiel, 38, teaches management at Richards College of Business and has been with UWG since 2006. He is married with two boys. His duty station is Camp Leatherneck in the Hemland Province, Afghanistan.

Anyone interested in writing to Dr. Bergiel can do so at: Maj. Erich B. Bergiel, II MEF FWD, C-9, Unit 73920, FPO AE, 09510-3920.
