Carroll County men are living longer, while the life expectancy for area women is actually declining.
The average male in Carroll County in 2007 lived to be 72.6 years old, up from 70 years of age in 1987 and 71.7 in 1997. Women here have a life expectancy of 77.8 in 2007 as opposed to 77.9 in 1997 and 77.4 in 1987.
The numbers became available this week as the University of Washington released its Population Health Metrics study, showing aging trends for every county in the nation. The numbers look at 10-year data with years available in 1987, 1997 and 2007.
Carroll County Health Board Chairman Dr. Jack Birge said the jump in life expectancy for local men can be tracked to heart health advances and the willingness of men to seek cardiac care.
