After months of worry, the local public library system has learned it will not be facing the deep budget cuts it feared from the state and the Carroll County and Carrollton City governments have increased funding.
Those factors combined mean that only minor changes should hit local libraries.
“We thought we would lose four people, but we’re only losing two. One is retiring and one is laid off,” said Library Director Jim Cooper.
Both of those positions will be removed from the budget at the end of the month, but additional changes will be put off until August.
For the past three years, the city government has budgeted $233,000 for the Neva Lomason Public Library. This year, the amount was increased about $40,000.
