UWG Signee

Hardwood homecoming for UWG signee

Lavon Gray has called the Left Coast home for the past several years, but his roots are here in the South.

And Gray, who is originally from New Orleans and has family in Atlanta, will enjoy a homecoming of sorts after signing with the University of West Georgia men’s basketball team — marking the first in a class of four inked by Wolves coach Michael Cooney thus far for the 2011-12 season.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity. My family out there has wanted to watch me for a long time. Coach Cooney was talking about us playing in New Orleans for a couple of games next year. So my family would love that — and I would love that, as well,” said Gray, a 6-foot-6 forward that was a two-year starter and First Team All-Coast Conference performer last season at Ohlone College in Fremont, Calif., one of the top programs in the California JUCO league.
