Douglasville Police Department will participate Wednesday in the annual Special Olympics “Flame of Hope” law enforcement torch run through Douglasville streets.

“This year, we’ll begin the run at 9:30 a.m. at Olive Garden on Douglas Boulevard,” said Matt Underwood, Douglasville Police torch run organizer. “Officers will run the torch to the county courthouse where it will be picked up by a second group of officers and they will run it to the police department.”

Underwood said the Douglasville run is part of the running of the torch through Georgia before it enters Emory University on May 20 for opening ceremonies and start of the summer games. The objective is to raise funds and awareness for athletes of Special Olympics Georgia.
