Trimble commits to West Georgia

Geneva High School added another future college athlete to its ranks last week when senior Dan Trimble signed a letter of intent to play basketball for the University of West Georgia.

The 6’8 senior standout was recruited by numerous schools but says choosing UWG wasn’t all that difficult. “It’s a nice campus and I got to play with the team when I visited,” he said. “They were really easy to get along with.”

The Wolves are a member of the Gulf South Conference of NCAA Division II. The men’s basketball program is led by Michael Cooney, who has been an assistant at UWG since 1997 and took the head position in 2007. During his tenure at the helm, the Wolves have made three trips to the Gulf South Conference Tournament. In 2002, while he was an assistant, they were conference champions and captured the Division II South Region title on the way to their first and only appearance in the DII Elite Eight.
