Student Starts @UWGFollowers

UWG sophomore Ashley Henry has decided to put UWG on the map. Henry has created a Twitter page to allow UWG students to connect.

The page, @UWGFOLLOWERS, is a Twitter account that sends updates about campus activities, as well as shout-outs to UWG students, in order for the account’s followers to connect to other students.

Henry said that she is interested in having @UWGFOLLOWERS accomplish big things.

“I wanted to give an opportunity to UWG students so we could have more networking and put UWG on the map,” Henry said. “It’s for people trying to find things to do—an avenue to know what is going on.”

Henry hopes to expand the movement from an account to a website and an on-campus group. As an on-campus group, it is her hope that the group will bring different people to different on-campus events. Hopefully, with a website, different organizations and individuals can post their information to the site in order to help keep students up-to-date.

@UWGFOLLOWERS grew very fast, and Henry considers the feedback and response to be awesome.

“It’s surprised me…. I see a lot of people who would never talk to each other talk now. I want to make it for everybody. I plan to get more of a diverse follower group, when I go back to school by being able to talk to people in-person about it,” Henry explained.

Having started only two-and-a-half weeks ago and already boasting over 830 followers, it looks as if the page will fulfill its founder’s purpose.

“It’s our time to get put on the map,” Henry said. “It’s our time to show something positive and put West Georgia out there.”

If you’re interested in having any information relevant to the UWG student community, @UWGFOLLOWERS is interested in re-tweeting or tweeting the information to help you or your organization.

Please realize that @UWGFOLLOWERS is not the official UWG Twitter Page, which is @UWGMedia.
