University of West Georgia’s own Carrie Ptizulo will be discussing her new book, “Bachelors and Bunnies”, on Public Broadcasting Atlanta’s “Between the Lines” (WABE FM 90.1) this Friday, July 22, at 7 p.m. “Between the Lines” is a weekly author interview program that highlights the “brightest and most notable of today’s writers and thinkers.”
In her book, Pitzulo, assistant professor of history at UWG, discusses the sexual politics of Playboy, revealing how the magazine exhibits an alignment with women’s rights, including equality, modernization of sexual and gender roles, and expanded opportunities for women.
In addition to having access to archives, Pitzulo had the opportunity to interview both Hugh Hefner and his daughter, Christie Hefner, as a part of research for the book. It was upon her research she noticed that the magazine, in most cases, took a progressive stance of femininity and women’s rights. This gave her the platform to display the magazine in a new and different light than usual.
