Red Cross Efforts at UWG

Currently, only 3 out of every 100 people in the United States donate blood, but half the nation's blood supply comes from the Red Cross. If you do the math, it does not add up. This means that the Red Cross needs you!

Blood collected by the Red Cross is given to cancer patients, burn units, accident victims, schedule surgeries and many others.

West Georgia has made it easy for you. About every three months the Red Cross comes out to the campus to do a blood drive. All they need is one pint and an hour of your time to save one to three lives.

The next time the Red Cross is on campus or you see one of their mobile units, stop by. You just had to have a picture ID, be over the age of nineteen and weigh over 110 pounds. Both facilities are staffed with highly trained personals who have experience as EMT's, medical assistants, nurses and other medical professions.

Don't let fear or lack of time stop you from saving a life, you never know who may need that blood. Denise Baptiste of the Red Cross explained that even after working with the Red Cross for over eight years it did not hit her to how important blood was until her brother needed over thirty units for a surgery. "You never want it and it not be there. That is why people have to donate blood. We can't get it any other way."
