UWG students accepted into law school

The University of West Georgia is pleased to announce that, with the final numbers just in, 2011 proved a record-shattering year for UWG students applying to law school. Thirty-two different UWG students/graduates were accepted into at least one law school, with seventy-one law schools accepting at least one UWG applicant. This included such top schools as Georgia, Alabama, Iowa, George Mason, Wake Forest, and Washington & Lee.

The number of UWG students accepted into law school has more than doubled over the past four years: 32 in 2011, 24 in 2010, 17 in 2009, and 14 in 2008.  Of those applying from West Georgia, 74.4% (32 of 43) were admitted into at least one school, compared to 38.9% in 2008. Likewise, of the 334 total applications submitted from our students, 149 were accepted; this 44.6% success rate compares to 14.7% in 2009. In total, 29 UWG graduates began law school this past fall, compared to 13 in the fall of 2008.

The current 2012 season has also gotten off to a very good start. While the final numbers will not be available until next year, we have already had students accepted into such law schools as Emory, Georgia, Florida, and William & Mary.

At UWG, we have an extraordinarily active Pre-Law Society, which will be meeting three times over the rest of the semester: Thursday, April 5, at 7:00 p.m. in Pafford 118; Tuesday, April 10, at 7:00 p.m.; and Thursday, April 19, at 6:30 p.m.  The April 10 meeting will feature an admissions representative from the John Marshall Law School in Atlanta, while the Admissions Director from Georgia State University Law School, Dr. Cheryl Jester-George, will be our guest on April 19.

If there are any students interested in law school, they should contact Professor Tom Hunter so he can put them on the pre-law mailing list. He also encourages all students to join the society and is willing to meet with any students interested in law school.

  1. As a UWG student, it is of great interest to me that our current President will be stepping down at the end of this academic year and that a new one will be replacing him. I often think, dream, and reflect on what...
