City Councilmember Carla Smith to Host Atlanta's 10th Annual Electronic Waste Collection
Celebrating a decade of existence, Atlanta’s largest and most popular single-day recycling event is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Turner Field.
This year, the City of Atlanta’s Electronic Waste Collection Day, will take place from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Gold Lot at Turner Field.
Atlanta City Councilmember Carla Smith has again partnered with the City of Atlanta’s Department of Public Works, LivingGreenPages, Keep Atlanta Beautiful, Atlanta Recycling Solutions and Turner Field to collect and recycle computers and other household electronics.
Electronic items can have a harmful effect on the eco-system, emitting various chemicals into the soil and watershed, if not property recycled.
The massive collection event is part of a wide-range of activities planned all week in celebration of Earth Day in Atlanta.
If you live in the City of Atlanta, this is the day to rid your home and garage of all of your outdated and unwanted electronic items without harming the environment.
"Electronics are somewhat of a necessity in our daily lives. But as new technology hits the market, we must remember that the improper disposal of unwanted electronics can be harmful to our fragile environment," said Councilmember Smith. "In fact, many devices contain toxic waste and pose a health threat if they are disposed of within our landfills."
"I’m proud to say that over the past decade we have not only properly disposed of thousands of pounds of electronics, we have also educated thousands of Atlantans about the importance of recycling. Sponsoring this collection program each year has been a rewarding experience," Smith said.
