WOLF ENCOUNTERS: West Georgia Specialist

by Jordan Hofeditz/Times-Georgian

There's a reason the kickoff and punt teams in football are referred to as 'special' — because
when they're on the field, big things can happen.

University of West Georgia's Denarius Appling proved to be just that in a pair of punt returns and three kickoff returns Saturday afternoon against Tusculum College. His performance earned him Gulf South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honors after he returned the two punts for a total of 98 yards and the three kickoffs for 97 yards — a total of 195 yards and a touchdown, a 69-yarder to put the Wolves on the board for the first time in the 2011 season late in the first quarter of the 20-10 setback to the Pioneers.
