9/11 Commemorative Pieces on Display at UWG-Newnan

Pieces of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, salvaged after the 9/11 attack and ceremoniously presented to country music singer Alan Jackson in appreciation of his song "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning?" will be displayed at the University of West Georgia's Newnan Campus on Thursday, Sept. 8, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., and on Friday, Sept. 9, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Visitors are welcome. The WTC piece, which measures about 10 inches in diameter and has a cross carved in the middle, was given to Jackson by one of the New York City emergency personnel who responded to the attack. The Pentagon piece was presented to Jackson when he sang for Pentagon employees on the first anniversary of the attack. The pieces will be returned to Jackson's home in Tennessee on Sunday, Sept. 11. Jackson is a former UWG student.
