More than 1,000 people walked during last year’s Relay, raising $172,000. This year, the goal is a little higher — $178,000, said Ginny St. Onge, the American Cancer Society community manager for the local event.
“I think people participate in the Relay for Life because they feel helpless to fight back against cancer. This gives them a way to help and most of the money stays local,” she said. “Spend a day feeling like you’re fighting back."
