Harvard becoming ‘West Georgia North’

Years ago, a parent told the president of the University of West Georgia that he was proud his son was the first graduate of the university to go to an Ivy League school.

“Today it’s ho-hum. Harvard is becoming West Georgia North,” said Dr. Beheruz Sethna, president of UWG. He addressed the Newnan Rotary Club at its weekly luncheon April 1 at the Newnan Country Club

One of the things that sets UWG students apart is undergraduate research, according to Sethna.

“The best professor in the United States in the best university cannot pump enough content into students for the rest of their lives. It is necessary, but not a sufficient condition.

“The moment a student graduates, new knowledge will be created. In two more years, that knowledge will be out of date. So the best gift you can give to your children is not just content. It is the ability to acquire knowledge, how to learn,” he said.
