Wolves Volleyball End Season on a High Note




The 2011 UWG volleyball season came to a close on a high note on Saturday afternoon in New Orleans, as the Wolves blasted the Privateers 3-0 in the finale.

The Wolves wasted little time in dispatching UNO on Saturday afternoon, committing just eight errors en route to a .303 hitting percentage in the match. Freshman Lauren Kaufman led the UWG offensive with 12 kills in the match, committing just one error in 19 attempts for a .579 hitting percentage.

Leading by just two at 10-8 in the first set, the Wolves went on an 8-3 run, pushing the lead out to seven points at 18-11. New Orleans responded with a run of their own, pulling to within five at 20-15 before the Wolves finished off the set with a 5-1 run to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The second set was simply a flurry of points for the Wolves, as UWG opened up a 10-3 lead early and never looked back, finishing off the Privateers 25-12 to take a 2-0 lead in the match. In the final set, the result was never in doubt as West Georgia opened up a 6-1 lead early and cruised to a 25-18 victory.

Freshmen Amanda Miller and Samantha Drane split the setter duties in the contest, with Miller picking up 21 assists and Drane dishing out 14 assists. Libero Melissa Holt led the back line with 15 digs while Mary K Krueger and Mandy Black led the front row with three blocks each.

West Georgia closes the season with a 9-22 record and 3-12 in the Gulf South Conference.
