Local veterinarian making a difference in Afghanistan

Dr. Richard Whitten, a Carrollton veterinarian, has seen his Provincial Reconstructive Team come under fire scores of times by militant Taliban forces.

It is a “hot” area where Whitten and the team are based, the Paktika Province of Eastern Afghanistan, and in civilian terms, this translates into the place being nothing short of a war zone. In recent months, the group has seen a handful of casualties, one of which was fatal, and the threat of attack never goes away. There is never a time when one’s guard can be lowered.
