"Bad Astronomer" Hosts "Death from the Skies" At UWG's Coliseum

Dr. Phil Plait, host of Phil Plait’s Bad Universe on the Discovery Channel, will give a lecture and a book signing at the University of West Georgia on Nov. 9. The lecture, entitled, “Death from the Skies: These Are the Ways the World Will End” will take place at 8 p.m. in the Coliseum.

Tickets are available at the Townsend Center and are $3 for UWG students and $5 for the community.

Plait is an astronomer and a self-proclaimed skeptic, who loves fighting misuse of science and praising the wonder of real science. After 10 years of working on the Hubble Space Telescope, and six more working on astronomy education, Plait began his career as a writer. He has written two books, numerous magazine articles and blog posts and currently runs the website BadAstronomy.com, a website devoted to debunking bad science and popular misconceptions. The Bad Astronomy website received the “Best Science Blog” award in 2007, and Plaits’ writing has appeared in Maxim and the Huffington Post.

Plait earned his doctorate in astronomy at the University of Virginia, worked as a NASA contractor at the Goddard Space Flight Center and has spoken at many venues including NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, the Space Telescope Science Institute and the Hayden Planetarium in New York City. He has made several media appearances including CNN, Fox News, the SciFi Channel, Radio BBC and NPR.
