The UWG Theatre Company will be displaying love, struggle and hope as it performs Broke-ology, written by Nathan Louis Jackson. The play will run Feb. 22-26 in the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts Dangle Theatre. Show times are 7:30 pm (Feb. 22-25) and 2:30 pm (Feb. 25-26).
Broke-ology tells the story of a working family in a once vibrant run-down neighborhood Kansas City, Kan. Once a stop on the Underground Railroad, the neighborhood is a vital part of African- American life in Kansas City. The ensemble cast includes Erika Ragsdale as Sonia the strong willed mother and wife; Andra Ward Jr. as the warm-hearted father and husband, Terrence Smith as the willful son Ennis; and Aaron Wilson as Malcolm, the son who is determined to make a better life for himself. Many students had a hand in the design process including Jared LeClaire who provides the set design; Monica Mora provides costume designs; props by Katerina Verceles; and sound by Zach DeSutter.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and FREE with your UWG student I.D. Also, a community preview will be performed on Feb. 21 at 7:30 pm with ticket prices at $3. The show contains adult language. For more ticket information, please call (678) 839-4722.
