Carrollton, GA - The UWG soccer program held the third-annual Kick Sarcoma Cancer 3v3 Tournament: In Memory of Nicole Nunn this past weekend at the UWG Athletic Complex, with 10 teams participating in this year's event.
In the Men's Division, the team of International B won the tournament with Phillip Gosu, Frederick Abah, Derick Odhiambo, Owusu Yeboah and Kwame Yeboah making up the 2012 Champions.
The Coed Division was won by The Unicorns, a team comprised of former UWG players Cydney Ramond and Ambrey Earl along with Jake Thomason, Chris Howell and Ashton Phillips.
"It was a great day of soccer for a great cause," said UWG soccer head coach Marisa Kovacs. "Camp Sunshine was dear to Nicole's heart and we want to continue to honor them both with this event."
"With the generous participation of the UWG community, we were able to raise $500 for this wonderful cause."
Nunn was a former student and student athletic trainer at West Georgia. She had a long battle with cancer off and on from the time she was 10 years old and lost her battle to Ewing’s Sarcoma in November of 2009 at the age of 24.
Camp Sunshine is a program for children with cancer. It is an opportunity for children with cancer to enjoy normal activities like swimming, horseback riding, arts and crafts, and making friends all throughout the year. They offer programs that include the entire family and help to connect families to form support groups for one another. Camp Sunshine helps children to realize that they are not alone in their battle with cancer.
