The state board that oversees the Technical College System of Georgia and the Office of Adult Education (OAE) has voted to postpone a planned increase in the GED test fees for adult learners in Georgia. The TCSG board will wait until at least early next year to reconsider the cost, which was initially scheduled to begin next month, said Mike Light, TCSG Executive Director of Communications.
The decision was based on recommendations from the statewide test provider-OAE, and the GED Testing Service in Washington, D.C., which is responsible for the design and delivery of the test.
Earlier in April, the TCSG announced that the test fees would be doubled from the current $95, just in time for the scheduled launch of a brand new computer-based GED test in July.
However, the GED Testing Service recently asked the state board to postpone the cost increase, "citing the need to resolve all operational and technical matters involved in the development and delivery of the computer-based testing (CBT) model," said Light.
"The current fee of $95 to take the full battery of five GED tests will remain in effect into early 2012, or however long it takes to eliminate all issues with the new computer based test," said Rebecca Long, spokeswoman of Chattahoochee Technical College North Metro Campus in Acworth. "Only then will the TCSG reconsider the cost."
